Relax and Recharge

Gong Restorative is a deeply relaxing and nourishing class, combining the release available through a Restorative practice with the soothing vibrations of the gong. After a brief introduction to the gong and the power of sound healing followed by a light warmup, Amanda will play the gong while you are supported on your mat, allowing you to fully experience the powerful effect of vibration. Not only will your body and nervous system relax and replenish, but by adding the gong to this practice, your energy field and cells will also be affected. This is an excellent and welcoming introduction to the benefits of sound, with time for asking questions and sharing your experience (if you wish).

Have questions? I have answers!

  • Is this an all-levels class?

Yes! As long as you can comfortably get on and off the floor, you can participate.

  • How is Restorative yoga different?

Restorative yoga is designed to access your parasympathetic nervous system – rest & digest – and allow your body to release stress patterns. We have a little movement in the beginning of class, but most of the class is spent in stillness, in poses supported by props. You will not experience much in the way of strength or stretching, and you might feel like you fall asleep – which is a fantastic way to recharge.

  • How is this different from a sound bath?

They are very similar. You’ll be holding in stillness while the gong plays and allowing the sound to wash over you; but, instead of being flat on your back, you’ll switch positions to include some gentle heart opening, mild hip lifts, and belly support. Once settled in each pose, you’ll have a chance to drop in like in any sound bath setting.

  • What can I expect from the gong?

It’s hard to say! The effects of vibration can be powerful, both in the moment and in the following days. It can feel very LOUD, so if you’re sensitive to sound, bring some earplugs along – you’ll still enjoy all the benefits!

Come Prepared

Bring your yoga mat! Wear clothes you’re comfortable moving in, but that will keep you warm.

If you’re concerned about noise, bring earplugs. Props will be provided, and feel free to bring extra blankets.

Reviews & Testimonials

“I’ve been practicing yoga for 4+ years, but I still have soooo many questions… happily, Amanda has answers! Working one-on-one with her was a tremendous opportunity to re-focus my practice. Based on her ideas for me and my list of challenging poses, Amanda made some eye-opening small but powerful adjustments, which we immediately put into action. Just a simple shift of my standing stance brought newfound stability and flexibility to multiple poses. Amazing! One private lesson has transformed my time in all my classes, even with other instructors. And hey, it was fun, too. So glad I took the plunge. Thanks, Amanda!”

Amanda is funny, warm, non-judgemental and she is an excellent instructor who deeply understands her subject and knows how to explain it.

Amanda’s teaching is so intentional. Her knowledge of alignment and ways of implementing it in class surpasses most other instructors I know. I feel safe, supported, and like I’m absolutely doing something to benefit my body and not just look good on my instagram page.

I just really love Amanda’s style. She is very analytical and precise when it comes to discussing human anatomy and I enjoyed learning from her. Her cues and what to look for in the asanas we covered were descriptive and so easy to follow!
